Reflections

Experience :

As this was my first semester at BDCM, everything felt new and exciting, and the passionate fire in my heart burned brightly as I was eager to start.

That fire was quickly put out when I realised that Typography wasn't as fun and easy as I had thought, there was many rules to follow in order to make good typography work. However, each project provided me with an opportunity to delve deeper into the subject, learning different facets of Typography and steadily improving my skills. Completing each task not only enhanced my understanding but also allowed me to apply my growing knowledge to develop and elevate the quality of my work.

Observations :

Focusing on details was a key area of growth for me during the 14 weeks of this module. I discovered that every minor element contributes to the harmony of the overall design. This module also provided me the chance to further explore Adobe applications and their functionalities, and learning about text focused software such as Fontlab7 and InDesign.. I have also enjoyed observing how my friends tackled the same assignments with different design styles, some sparking ideas and inspiration for my own works.

Findings :

One of the most important lessons I learned is that the design process is just as crucial as the final outcome. Exploring different approaches and iterations during the process allows us to unlock creative potential and push boundaries in Typography design. I also came to understand that building a strong foundation in the basics of Typography, is essential to producing compelling designs.
